About Omar

Omar Newell is a Juris Doctorate candidate at Northwestern University School of Law.

Before coming to America, he worked at the National Housing Trust in Kingston, Jamaica. While at the Trust, he founded the “We Care – Adopt a Child Program”. This program adopts several needy high school students in Jamaica, and takes care of their expenses. The program also provides mentor-ship to these ambitious young Jamaicans. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, he rallied staff support to collect food and other essential items to assist the Jamaica Red Cross with their relief effort.

In 2005, Omar transferred to Monroe College in New York. While at Monroe college, he founded the Pre-Law club and Debate Society. He also held leadership positions in several other on campus organizations, and represented Monroe at numerous events in New York, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Washington DC, Kansas and St. Lucia.

As a public speaker, Omar has spoken at events across Jamaica, New York City and St. Lucia, sharing the unique story of his childhood (read about it here) and his passion for excellence.
